On June 6th, 2011, fellow nursing student, Julia Hirschy, and I got on a plane to travel 15+ hours to New Delhi, India.
Neither of us are strangers to airports or long-haul flights, but as we sat in JFK’s international flight termal, chatting furiously about our plans on arrival, jittery with excitement and waiting impatiently for our flight to board, you probably couldn’t tell.
After a year of toiling away in classrooms, labs, and hospital floors, we were on our way to spend our summer in India, working in maternal and child health and quality improvement strategies for rural nursing schools with Jhpiego – a non-governmental organization with a mission to improve the health and wellbeing of women and their families around the world.
We’re excited to share our experience with you, and hope you enjoy it, just as much as we did.
