Defining Moments

Anna D. Wolf (center), a 1915 Hopkins nursing graduate, served as the first Superintendent of Nurses (1919-1924) and Dean of the School of Nursing (1924-1925) at Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), the first Western-style nursing and medical school in China. Among her faculty were fellow alumnae from the classes of 1918 and 1919, whom she had taught when she was an instructor at Johns Hopkins. Today, a joint PhD program, funded by the China Medical Board of New York, Inc., serves as proof of the strong ties between the two schools.
