1st Annual Alumni Spring Tea

On May 19, 32 alumni from Johns Hopkins and Church Home met at The Octagon House in Mt.Washington for the 1st Annual Alumni Tea. Guests included alumnae from 1942–1975 including Trudy Hodges from Hopkins and Teri Fink Bennett, ’75 who adorned beautiful spring hats!

May 19th, 2010 – First Annual Spring Tea

Following a delicious menu, guests were treated to a tour of the archives by Nancy McCall, Phoebe Letocha, and archives staff. Everyone was thrilled and amazed at the opportunity to see the many historical artifacts in the Hopkins and Church Home collections. Barbara Zelenka Spink, CHH ’69 won the Longaberger Tea Basket raffle which generated $184 for the scholarship fund. Visit the CHH School of Nursing Facebook page to see the pictures. Recognize anyone?

The tradition of having tea is very special, and we certainly missed having Miss Creutzburg’s silver tea service at this event. This unique piece of memorabilia remains missing but we are all hopeful that it will find its way back to us someday. In its absence, a 10 piece Wallace Grand Baroque Silver Tea Service was on display. It had been donated to the CHH Collection by Susan Blakeslee Phillips, CHH ’73.
Class of ’53 holds Reunion in Florida

Dee Sadarananda ’53 announced that five members of the class journeyed to Florida last October. The next reunion for the class of ’53 will be at the home of Ann Pritts in Westminster this October.
Put Your Best Foot Forward with Dr.Oz

On Monday May 17, Susan Riddleberger ’73 was selected from the audience of “The Dr. Oz Show” to ask Dr. Oz a question. She asked if her feet were okay and got her 15 minutes of fame by having a sniff test on national television! Sue has worked in cardiac surgery at Hopkins for 30 years and she gave Dr. Oz, a cardiac surgeon, a Hopkins cardiac surgery tee shirt.
Class of ’75 Plans 35th Reunion

Seven members of the class of 1975 attended the Tea and announced big plans for celebrating their 35th reunion at Alumni Weekend in September. If you would like to be a part of the planning or have questions, contact Daria Malan or Teri Fink Bennett.
Alumni Weekend is September 24–25

Let’s get a big crowd to honor our 50-year graduates from the class of 1960. Contact Kitty Pyne ’60 for 50-year reunion information. Let’s break all our Alumni Weekend attendance records this year!

CHH Clock
Have you seen this clock before?

Alice Von Rintelyn Brennan ’56 donated a photo of the Class of 1956, and a framed counted cross-stitch replica of the CHH dome. The original pattern was done by Emily Murray, of Westminster, in 1984. If you have any information about Ms. Murray, please contact me at 410-893-2421 or [email protected].

Mr. Thomas “Gil” Whedbee, former president of CHH, donated the antique wall clock that hung in the Jessie Kendall Memorial Library. If you know anything about the history of the clock, please contact me at 410-893-2421 or [email protected].

I recently visited archivist Marie Kline at the Episcopal Cathedral Church of the Incarnation, who graciously allowed me to borrow several photographs from CHH, many nearly 80 years old. The Alan Mason Chesney Medical Archives are going to review the photographs and digitally copy those that should become a part of the CHH collection.
