In the cafe area of the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, a story is being told. A story of nurses who responded to the call to take a stand against domestic violence.
This February, the JHSON is hosting the National Institutes of Health’s “Confronting Violence: Improving Women’s Lives” exhibit that details the history of nursing in relation to domestic violence and research. Our faculty member Dr. Jackie Campbell, who has had long involvement with the project, is featured. The powerful display covers generations of reform and the continued work that needs to be done against domestic violence.
More powerful though are the stories of victims—no longer here to share their stories themselves—who have lost their lives from intimate partner violence. A new Huffington Post article shares the stories of such women and features Campbell and the work of faculty member Dr. Nancy Glass, whose research has covered the relation between strangulation and domestic homicide of women.
They are sorrowful stories, but stories that need to be told. Check out the article, and come visit the exhibit—it’s open to the public.
