#OfficeHour is a monthly chat on Facebook and Twitter where anyone can ask Johns Hopkins School of Nursing experts questions about their field.
In January’s #OfficeHour, Career Services director Laura Arthur and students and alumni of the MSN (Entry Into Nursing) Program tackled frequently asked questions about the job hunt for nurses.
On Twitter, current MSN (Entry Into Nursing) Program students Tom Winkler, Caitlin Green, Katherine Barbour, and Anna Bryant shared their experience. Some of the questions included:
- How can I explore different paths within nursing?
- Should I do a new graduate residency program?
- When do I begin job searching?
- What is a good way to learn about prospective employers?
- Should I have a resume or a CV?
- How do I talk to an employer at a networking event?
- How can I stand out to employers?
- Where do JHSON graduates end up?
- What are some of the career paths for nurses?
Check out the Twitter Moment here to see their responses
The next day, Tom and Laura were joined on video by MSN (Entry Into Nursing) alumni Sally Rives and Liz Doro. Some of their questions included:
- How did you hear about your current position?
- Do you have any tips for interviewing and assessing if somewhere will be a good fit?
- How long was your orientation and what was it like? Were you part of a residency?
- Do you have any suggestions for being most successful during orientation and the early months?
- How did your JHSON education make a difference in your transition from student to RN?
- Did you encounter anything unexpected or challenging?
- What advice would you give to rising graduates?
You can watch the video on Facebook here
The MSN (Entry Into Nursing) Program is designed for students who have a bachelor’s degree in another field who want to become a registered nurse.
Join us for the next #OfficeHour on Black HIV/AIDS day February 7. Dr. Derek Dangerfield and his community partner Cody Lopez of Community Cares will be discussing HIV/AIDS in African Americans in Baltimore. And don’t miss the career fair January 23 for students graduating in December 2018 or later.
