Pride Month celebrates the diversity and vibrancy of the LGBTQ+ community and their impact on our nation through their contributions, activism, advocacy, and mutual community support. Pride month also calls on us to recognize the obstacles LGBTQ+ people have overcome for equal treatment and the barriers to opportunity, health, and freedom that continue today. Our school stands against all attacks and discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals and remains committed to advancing equity and health for all people.
In nursing, we set an example for how to treat people of all genders, sexualities, identities, and backgrounds with dignity and respect. Our state of Maryland is prioritizing gender-affirming treatment with the most recent passage of the Trans Health Equity Act. And as part of our institutional commitment to equity, Johns Hopkins offers LGBTQ care and resources.
At JHSON, we have also taken many steps to fully interweave LGBTQ+ culture into our curriculum, activities, and school life. We strive to be a community where all people can be their full selves and thrive. If you know of more ways we can be better, we are always ready to listen and make improvements.
This Pride Month, may our school continue to live out its values of inclusive excellence. I’m grateful for our community and our openness for all people to live and learn.
