Shawna Mudd, ’10: Outstanding Nurse Educator Award

As associate dean for academic affairs at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, Dr. Mudd has played a key role in advancing curriculum development and supporting high-quality academic programs. Her extensive clinical experience as a pediatric nurse practitioner strengthens her teaching by connecting real-world practice to the classroom. In addition, her national recognition from the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties in 2021 as an Outstanding Nurse Practitioner Educator Award recipient underscores her impact on nursing education.

Jason Farley, ’03, ’08: Outstanding Nurse Researcher Award

Dr. Farley is the associate dean for community programs and initiatives and director of the Center for Infectious Disease and Nursing Innovation. He is an infectious disease epidemiologist and nurse practitioner with over 20 years of clinical experience. Focusing on tuberculosis, especially drug-resistant TB, he challenged physician-centered models that forced patients to travel for care. By training nurses to diagnose, treat, and manage drug-resistant TB, his team reduced treatment failure by 45 percent in a cluster trial and accelerated linkage to care within four days.

Naomi Fener, ’11: Outstanding Policy Influencer Award

Naomi Fener is Families USA’s Director of Population Health, where she provides thought leadership on population health outcomes and the social drivers of health. A committed advocate for equitable health care, Naomi has bridged her clinical nursing practice to policy leadership, working to ensure that everyone has access to quality care and the opportunity to thrive. She continues to support the school by mentoring students in the Policy Honors program and serving on various panels.
