Allison Benner will join the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) in January 2020 as its new Associate Dean for Finance and Administration. She brings more than 20 years of experience in financial and operational management positions and significant experience in higher education administration.

Benner most recently served as Senior Finance Director for the George Washington University School of Engineering & Applied Science. She led and managed the school’s financial, budgetary, administrative, and operational initiatives, served as an advisor to the Dean and the university’s financial management leadership team, and led innovation and strategic planning to develop solutions to market challenges prevalent in the higher education industry. Benner provided financial insight, advice, and strategic guidance in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure alignment of priorities and achievement of common goals within the university.

Prior to her role at GW, Benner served for ten years as a Senior Vice President at Allied Capital Corporation where she led the risk, compliance, and internal audit functions. She was previously a financial analyst at the Carlyle Group and a senior auditor for Arthur Andersen, LLP.

Benner received a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration with a concentration in Finance and Policy from the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the George Washington University and her B.S. in Accountancy from Bentley University. She holds a CPA license with the Massachusetts State Board of Public Accountancy and is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, where she is a Certified Internal Auditor.

“We are excited to welcome Mrs. Benner to our school, staff, and leadership team,” says JHSON Dean Patricia Davidson, PhD, MEd, RN, FAAN. “Her role interfaces with all areas of our school, and her wealth of knowledge and experience will be integral to furthering our mission and strategic plan.”
