The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) has finalized the selection of its academic leadership team by appointing highly respected faculty members Marie Nolan, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN, and Martha (Marti) Andrews, PhD, as Associate Dean and Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, respectively.
Dean Patricia M. Davidson, PhD, MEd, RN, FAAN, said in announcing the appointments that the selections speak volumes about the quality of JHSON faculty.
“Our search revealed that both the research and administrative expertise we were looking for were in our own backyard," Davidson said. "Drs. Nolan and Andrews bring a wealth of talent to their roles and a keen appreciation for the important role our faculty, staff, and academic programs have in furthering our mission and impact.”
Nolan (top photo), a highly accomplished teacher, scholar, and academic administrator, has served as acting associate dean for academic affairs, chair of the Department of Acute and Chronic Care, PhD Program director, and director of the Peking Union Medical Center-JHSON PhD Program in Beijing, China. She currently holds a joint faculty appointment in the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics and has served on advisory panels of the National Institutes of Health regarding end-of-life care research.
Nolan is known for her work on patient and family decision making in the face of critical illness. In addition, to her publications in the nursing and multidisciplinary research literature, she has edited two books, Measuring Patient Outcomes and Transplantation Nursing: Acute and Long-term Management. She is currently president of the International Network for Doctoral Education Nursing (INDEN).
Andrews has extensive academic experience as well, having served on faculty at Ohio State University and as an assistant dean for advising and international programs at Oregon State University. She also teaches a highly respected online prerequisite course in nutrition.
