The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing magazine, Johns Hopkins Nursing, is the recipient of a 2009 Nursing Print Media Award from the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI).  The award will be presented to the magazine editorial staff at the STTI 40th Biennial Convention later this year in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the nursing profession.

"STTI honors nurses and others who strive to portray a positive image of nursing and promote nursing excellence. It is through creative projects such as these that the public image of nursing is heightened," says STTI president Carol J. Huston, RN, MSN, DPA, FAAN.   The awards recognize communicators, information specialists, photojournalists and creative individuals and groups who have pursued excellence in communicating nursing's rich and diverse stories and in sharing nursing's knowledge with the nursing community or general public.

Johns Hopkins Nursing tells the story of Hopkins nurses' endeavors in education, practice, scholarship, research, and national leadership.  It is a collaborative venture of the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, the Johns Hopkins Nurses' Alumni Association, and the nursing departments of the Johns Hopkins affiliated hospitals.  The publication strives to portray a positive image of nurses not only as caregivers, but as patient advocates, critical thinkers, and leaders and valuable members of multidisciplinary teams.

The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide.
