Lost Loved Ones Support Group for Health Professional Students
Meeting – December 8, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., N311- RSVP - https://nursingjhu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_03sj2ONUgat0oOa
Join us on December 8 for a support group for those who have lost loved ones. We are providing a space in which students who are planning to go into the healthcare field can speak about past trauma (specifically related to losing a loved one). This support group is meant to help students work through the emotional reactions to information we are learning as it relates to the death of a loved one. Those of us that who have gone through the process of losing someone so close, can understand that while this learning experience will provide us the tools to be empathetic, understanding, equipped nurses, the topics can be very triggering. My name is Izzy Mangan, and I know this from personal experience. My dad died of esophageal cancer in 2019, and within the first semester I have had to grapple with being taught about he suffered, was treated, and eventually died. I know I’m not the only one who has had this happen, and I’d like to connect with others so we can provide support, connection, and growth to each other.
This group is meant for people who have undergone the loss or are going through the loss of someone very close to them and are worried about/have already encountered discussions that are triggering. If you are someone who has experienced this or you are worried about how the loss of a family member/partner/loved one will affect your nursing career, this is the group for you.
Questions: Isabella Mangan [email protected] or [email protected].
