    • American Public Health Association Philadelphia Conference 2019 Time: All Day Locations: Philadelphia, PA Details: APHA's Annual Meeting and Expo is the largest annual gathering of public health professionals. More than 12,000 people attend, and thousands of new abstracts are presented each year, making APHA 2019 the most influential meeting in public health.     • Discrimination Journal Club Time: 2:00pm - 3:00pm Locations: 525 North Wolfe Street, Baltimore MD Details:

      The objective of this journal club is to facilitate an open space for discussions regarding relationships between racial discrimination and health outcomes. Journal article topics will include experiences of racism across the lifespan for different racial and ethnic groups, and different levels of racism (e.g. interpersonal, institutional, structural).

      When: Monday 11/4 from 2:00-3:00pm

      Where: School of Nursing, room 401.

    • Unpacking Privilege Unlocking Justice Time: 5:30pm - 7:30pm Locations: SON 217-Pinkard Bldg Details: Social Identity. Social Justice. Privilege. What does it all mean?

      Please join Session 3 of the Social Justice Series – This 90 minute interactive workshop will highlight the ways in which we all enjoy privilege based on being members of social and personal identity groups. The goal of the workshop is to identify specific ways we can use our privilege to create a more just and caring world where each person is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. Participants will:

      • Learn and examine the definitions of privilege, identity, and social justice

      • Illuminate their own privilege as individuals

      • Discuss ways in which they can use their privilege in their personal and professional lives to help create a just and caring world

    • Faculty and Staff Worskhop/Webinar on Searchable Photo/Video Databases Time: 11:00am - 12:00pm Locations: SON 320-Pinkard Bldg Details:

      This is a workshop and webinar introducing all faculty and staff to the new searchable video and photo databases. The images and videos in these databases can be used in courses (online and in-person) and in presentations. 

      Liz Pallia, Sr. Instructional Technologist, will present.

    • International Visiting Scholar Symposium Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm Locations: SON 10-Pinkard Bldg Details:

      Please join us to hear our SON International Visiting Scholars from China, Thailand and the Netherlands to present their experiences and involvement in the Scholars Program.  As part of their scholarship to exchange training expertise, they will speak to their work in partnering with SON faculty mentors in non-degree educational opportunities including research and health disparities, while sharing their professional and cultural perspectives.  This event will be held in Pinkard, Room 10, 11/8/2019 from 10 am - 12:00 pm.  Light refreshments will be served after presentation.
