CILDI Webinar: Purposeful Design for AI-Augmented Healthcare Time: 5:00pm - 6:00pm Locations: Online Details:
Webinar Description:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the healthcare industry, as evidenced by the FDA's approval of more than 500 medical AI systems by July 2022. Although AI will not replace healthcare professionals, those who integrate AI into their practices will likely replace those who do not. However, integrating AI into healthcare requires rethinking and redesigning workflows. This seminar will explore the challenges and benefits of integrating human and machine intelligence in healthcare. To highlight the challenges, Dr. Dai will discuss a working paper that models and analyzes the legal liability implications of healthcare providers using assistive AI in prescribing treatment plans. In addition, Dr. Dai will showcase the potential benefits of AI by presenting results from a recent randomized controlled trial (RCT) conducted in Bangladesh that demonstrates how autonomous AI can improve clinical productivity and increase access to care. Finally, Dr. Dai will propose a research agenda for designing AI-enabled healthcare to create value for patients, providers, and society.
Course Objectives:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of artificial intelligence and its significance in healthcare.
- Recognize potential areas for enhancing patient care through the use of artificial intelligence.
- Foresee and overcome obstacles, such as ethical, legal, and operational considerations, in incorporating artificial intelligence into medical practice.
- Explain the role of artificial intelligence in partnering with interprofessional colleagues to provide improved patient care.
- Contribute to their organization's efforts in expanding the use of AI to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Reunion Weekend 2023 - Cocktails & Conversations Time: 5:00pm - 7:30pm Locations: 525 North Wolfe Street, Baltimore MD Details:
Cocktails and Conversations: Facing Inequities in Caregiving and Advocating for Change
Thursday, June 1 | 5 pm | Johns Hopkins School of Nursing
Nurses are uniquely positioned to witness firsthand the ways in which barriers and biases impact patients and their families. From disparities in access to care, to unequal distribution of caregiving responsibilities, to cultural misunderstandings and bias, there are many challenges to achieving equitable care for all. However, we believe that JHU SON Alumni have the ability to drive positive change and make a meaningful difference in the lives of their patients and communities. We hope that you will join us in discussing these issues and sharing strategies on how we can work towards a more equitable and fair healthcare system.
Attendees will enjoy cocktails and refreshments as they engage in a peer dialogue about inequities faced in caregiving, globally and domestically.
For this dialogue we are defining caregiving according to the CDC. Caregivers provide care to people who need some degree of ongoing assistance with everyday tasks on a regular or daily basis. The recipients of care can live in residential or institutional settings, range from children to older adults, and have chronic illnesses or disabling conditions.
