      Social Identity. Social Justice. Privilege. What does it all mean?

      Please join Session One of the Social Justice Series – This 90 minute interactive workshop will highlight the ways in which we all enjoy privilege based on being members of social and personal identity groups. The goal of the workshop is to identify specific ways we can use our privilege to create a more just and caring world where each person is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. Participants will:

      • Learn and examine the definitions of privilege, identity, and social justice

      • Illuminate their own privilege as individuals

      • Discuss ways in which they can use their privilege in their personal and professional lives to help create a just and caring world

    • Online Chat Time: 3:00pm - 5:00pm Location: Online Details:

      The online chat is a great way to ask any questions you may have, or see other questions being asked that you may not have thought to ask yourself. An abundance of information is discussed and we hope you will join us.

      Be sure your computer has Java properly installed and enabled, and your pop up blocker is turned off in order to successfully log into the chat. Chat sessions will become active 30 minutes before the start time to allow students to join.  Registration required.

      Healthcare Equity from a Social Justice Perspective will set out to discuss and brainstorm solutions to addressing healthcare disparities in American cities and the leadership role that medical institutions and universities should have in addressing such disparities. Our guest Marc Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, will speak with School of Nursing Professor, Dr. Phyllis Sharps on the recent ruling in Texas deeming the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional, along with the section of the State of Black America report that covers health disparities.

    • Free Yoga at Cooley Center Sponsored by UHS Wellness Time: 7:15pm - 8:15pm Location: JHU East Baltimore Campus Details:

      UHS Wellness is sponsoring a free yoga class at the Cooley Center!  Our outdoor series is coming indoors for the winter at a new time. Join us on Wednesday evenings (7:15-8:15 pm) to flow through your week with certified yoga instructor and preventive medicine resident Margarita Ramos. You do not need to have a Cooley Center membership or buy class passes to participate. This class is free to all students and trainees! Mats are provided; no registration necessary.

      The Office for Science and Innovation (OSI) is pleased to host Bryan Whaley, PhD, Professor of Communications and Director of Health Studies at the University of San Francisco. Dr. Whaley is the founder and editor of a new peer-reviewed journal, Nursing Communication, with the inaugural edition soon to be published.

The Conference will be hosting it's Graduate School Fair, which attracts upwards of 250 high academic achievers from McNair Scholars and Student Support Services Programs from across the nation as well as students from the University of Maryland.
