      Looking for student services or to join a club or organization at the SON?  Come to the Student Services and Activities Fair in the Carpenter Room and Café.  You will have the chance to sign up for student groups and learn more about local services at the SON and on campus.

    • Men in Nursing Happy Hour Time: 5:00pm - 7:00pm Locations: SON - Carpenter Room Details:

      Join Men in Nursing student group for happy hour to learn about the group, joining up, and expanding our community involvement. JHH Nurses will be in attendance to share their experiences. Refreshments and appetizers will be available for those attending. Please RSVP so that we can best prepare. We look forward to hosting past and present students and expanding the Men in Nursing group!

    • OSI Biostatistics and Methods Core Workshop: Structural Equation Modeling with Nancy Perrin Time: 12:00pm - 1:30pm Locations: SON - Carpenter Room Details:

      The Office for Science and Innovation (OSI) is pleased to announce that Dr. Nancy Perrin, Director of the Biostatistics and Methods Core in the OSI, will be hosting a workshop focused on structural equation modeling.

      Structural equation modeling tests complex models incorporating a measurement model while simultaneously testing relationships where a given variable can be specified as both independent and dependent in the model.  Below is an example of such a model that predicts birth weight from mother’s characteristics.

      This seminar will provide an overview of when structural equation modeling is useful, including the special cases of path analysis, mediator models, and confirmatory factor analysis.  Topics will include evaluation of goodness-of-fit, sample size issues, and model modification.

      This workshop will be an interactive tutorial and discussion featuring a panel of 2nd-5th semester Master's Entry students, who will showcase a variety of tips and suggestions for improving your studying and organizational skills. Lunch will be provided. 

      The Study & Organization Skillshare is designed specifically for 1st semester students, but all SON students are welcome to attend.

      MSN (Entry) Summer 2019 Cohort Students are invited to an information session regarding the application process and placements for the Summer 2019 Synthesis Practicum.

      Please note that the information provided in this session is applicable only to the Summer 2019 offering of the Synthesis Practicum.

    • Free Yoga at Cooley Center Sponsored by UHS Wellness Time: 7:15pm - 8:15pm Locations: JHU East Baltimore Campus Details:

      UHS Wellness is sponsoring a free yoga class at the Cooley Center!  Our outdoor series is coming indoors for the winter at a new time. Join us on Wednesday evenings (7:15-8:15 pm) to flow through your week with certified yoga instructor and preventive medicine resident Margarita Ramos. You do not need to have a Cooley Center membership or buy class passes to participate. This class is free to all students and trainees! Mats are provided; no registration necessary.

      Shaping National Disaster and Public Health Policy through Nursing Research: The National Academy of Medicine Nurse Scholar in Residence

      The Office for Science and Innovation (OSI) is pleased to host a workshop lead by Dr. Tener Goodwin Veenema.  Dr. Goodwin Veenema served as the 2017–2018 Distinguished Nurse Scholar-in-Residence at the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). The program provides a yearlong leadership opportunity to participate in shaping health policy. This presentation will provide an overview of Dr. Veenema’s work while at NAM and strategies for using her leadership experience in advancing national preparedness and interprofessional workforce readiness in public health emergencies.  The Distinguished NAM Nurse Scholar-in-Residence program is supported by the American Academy of Nursing, the American Nurses Association, and the American Nurses Foundation.
