      The Office for Science and Innovation (OSI) is pleased to announce that, in conjunction with Suzanne Ffolkes, VP of Communications at Research!America, we will be hosting a workshop focused on effective scientific communications. This interactive workshop will focus on ways to distill complex scientific information into short, but informative, narratives to engage a non-scientific audience. The workshop will engage participants in exercises including developing and critiquing sample "elevator pitches." Participants will exchange advice and best practices for how to communicate with policymakers, potential funders, media, and consumers. Lunch will be provided and the workshop will be recorded.     • Understanding the Complexity of the Academic Requirements in Nursing Time: 12:00pm - 1:30pm Location: 525 North Wolfe Street, Baltimore MD Details:
      Join other staff colleagues to learn and understand the Academic and Professional Requirements in Nursing. We will tackle the academic and professional requirements, learn the lingo and understand the letters next to their names, find out the requirements for nursing school, what students need to graduate from their programs, where do I fit in this picture - how does my job impact our students? The seminar will be held at noon on Monday, June 19, 2017, in Room 10. This will be a brown bag lunch event, however, cookies and beverages will be served.

    • Best Practices for Research Data Management and Sharing Time: 12:00pm - 1:30pm Location: TBD Details: The OSI will be hosting a workshop with Dr. Dave Fearon from JHU Data Management on Best Practices for Research Data Management and Sharing. Dr. Fearon will give an overview of best practices including backup procedures, tips on effective file names, data security, access controls, and data documentation/metadata. Faculty and doctoral students are encouraged to attend.

      Partnering with Patients 2nd Annual Conference Patient-Provider Collaboration: Making Patient-Centered Care a Reality

      Conference Goals:
      •Discuss the impact of effective patient-provider collaboration in population health
      •Share a variety of approaches to patient-centered communication, including Patient Engagement Training, Teach Back, Language of Caring, and Shared Decision Making
      •Highlight the patient perspective on effective ways to collaborate with patients
      •Share patient, caregiver, clinician, and health systems perspectives on measuring quality of care
      •Bring together groups working on patient engagement and patient centered communication to increase awareness and identify collaboration opportunities
