      This is a collegial, relaxed forum to meet other Clinical Nurse Specialists and ask them your questions about practice and “real-life” as a CNS.​

      This session, we welcome our very special guest, Mr. Kevin Sowers, MSN, RN, FAAN, President of the Johns Hopkins Health System and Executive Vice President of Johns Hopkins Medicine. We'll be exploring his background as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and the various ways it has influenced his professional journey.

    • Chat Session for MSN Entry into Nursing questions Time: 3:00pm - 4:00pm Locations: Online Details: The online chat is a great way to ask any questions you may have, or see other questions being asked that you may not have thought to ask yourself. An abundance of information is discussed and we hope you will join us. Be sure your computer has Java properly installed and enabled, and your pop up blocker is turned off in order to successfully log into the chat. Chat sessions will become active 15 minutes before the start time to allow students to join. Registration required. 
       
       
    • Current Trends in Nursing and the Business of Healthcare Time: 7:00pm - 8:00pm Locations: Online Details:

      Hosted by the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, key leaders discuss current trends in nursing and the business of healthcare in a fireside chat moderated by DNP/MBA and MSN/MBA alumni and current students. Featured Speakers: Deborah Baker, Senior Vice President for Nursing, Johns Hopkins Health System and Vice President of Nursing and Patient Care Services, Johns Hopkins Hospital;  JoAnn Ioannou, Senior Advisor to the President for Strategy, Johns Hopkins Health System; Supriya Munshaw, Senior Lecturer, Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.

      Breakout rooms following remarks from main speakers for the last 30 minutes to discuss the DNP/MBA with JHU Carey and SON admissions and faculty (Room 1), the MSN/MBA with JHU Carey and SON admissions and faculty (Room 2), and an opportunity to network with a student/faculty panel led by JHU Carey and SON Career Services (Room 3).

    • JHSON Grand Rounds Heather Watson: The Johns Hopkins Center for Nursing Inquiry; Building Partnerships to Build Capacity. Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm Locations: 525 North Wolfe Street, Baltimore MD Details: Dr. Heather Watson is The Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) Nurse Scientist leading and conducting discipline-specific and interprofessional research to strengthen the implementation, adoption and sustainability of best evidence for clinical, administrative and nursing practice. She grew up in Colorado and served in the United States Navy. Dr. Watson started her career as a maternal/child nurse, taught in nursing baccalaureate and master’s curriculums, and held a senior research nurse position in public health. Dr. Watsons’ initial research was in maternal and fetal health where the focus was on development and behavior. Currently her focus is building capacity for nursing research across the health system, using implementation science and practice as supporting theory and frameworks. She also leads The Center for Nursing Inquiry, which is a resource for nurses engaged in inquiry across the health system

    • COMPASS Center Journal Club Time: 3:00pm - 4:00pm Locations: Online Details:

      The COMPASS journal club is an opportunity for SON students to critically evaluate recent articles from academic literature on subjects related to our mission and vision. The journal club aims to create awareness about current issues, research, opportunities, and initiatives.

      Through journal club, we hope to foster opportunities for JHU students and faculty to dialogue about current issues in the field. We encourage participants to share their view regarding the appropriateness of the research design, statistical methods employed, and conclusions drawn from the findings.  The COMPASS center welcomes full time faculty and students to attend.

      Join us for a Diversity Dimensions Experience focused on JHSON’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in our admissions process. Each month will highlight a different focus on the diverse and unique population and their potential impact on the profession of nursing.

      For this month, Assistant Director of Diversity Initiatives Alexander Murphy will facilitate a discussion on nurses who began their careers as Active-Duty members of various military branches and those who continue their nursing work and research as Veterans of the United States Military. We will focus on the work, research, and importance of active-duty military and veterans working as health care professionals.
