MedHacks is a student-run hackathon held in partnership with many divisions within Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Hospital. They are one of the largest healthcare-focused hackathons in the United States, with 1000+ clinicians, engineers, scientists, and innovators participating each year.
There are typically 3 tracks led by lead sponsors. This year, the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing will be one of the lead sponsors and will be overseeing one of the 3 tracks. We will focus on patient safety and ways to improve nursing efficiency to decrease adverse events such as medication errors.

The COMPASS journal club is an opportunity for SON students to critically evaluate recent articles from academic literature on subjects related to our mission and vision. The journal club aims to create awareness about current issues, research, opportunities, and initiatives.

New Nurse Mentoring Meet-Up Time: 6:00pm - 7:00pm Locations: Online Details:
Beginning your first job as a new nurse can be daunting. To help ease the transition, increase confidence, and nurture the unique leadership qualities of all Hopkins Nurses, we will be hosting a virtual mentorship event for alumni from the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Entry into Nursing program. Geared towards new nurses, we are asking for alumni who graduated from the MSN (Entry) program in 2017-2019 to offer their guidance to more recent alumni from the program (2020-2022).
This mentorship opportunity will be a virtual event and will only require a one-hour time commitment. Each mentor will be paired with a recent graduate. During the virtual interaction over Zoom, mentors are encouraged to listen, support, advise, and assist their mentee with the transition to becoming a nurse.

Virtual Nursing Grand Rounds: Heterogeneity in Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factor Prevalence Among Ethnic Minority Populations in the United States. Time: 11:30am - 1:00pm Locations: Online Details:
Dr. Diana Baptiste, ’13, Dr. Binu Koirala, ’19 and PhD candidate Sabrina Elias will discuss psychosocial, environmental, and social factors impacting cardiovascular risk among ethnic minority groups living in the United States, implications for nursing care, and examine the cardiovascular risk factors among ethnic sub-groups.
The Virtual Nursing Grand Rounds will offer attendees one free contact hour for Nursing Continued Professional Development upon completion of a post-event quiz after each session, with the goal of fulfilling the JHSON’s mission of providing lifelong learning for health care professionals within the community.

The social reckoning, ongoing pandemic, and other health inequities have highlighted opportunities for nurse leaders, clinicians, and researchers to drive structural changes for their unique contexts. Responding to evolving imperatives of the nursing profession, this event will explore the role of nurses in promoting equity in shared decision-making to drive health outcomes and dismantle practices that perpetuate racism and oppression.
