      Students who are registered for our prerequisite courses get access to their course site(s) in Blackboard one week before the course begins. This date is also the deadline for registering to take prerequisite courses with us for the upcoming semester. With our Spring 2019 semester beginning on Tuesday, January 15, course sites will be opening to students on January 8. This is also the final day to register for prerequisite courses in our Spring 2019 semester.

      If you have any other questions about taking prerequisite courses with us, please review our Prerequisite FAQ.

      Please note: While the application may be open on January 8, you will not receive your JHED ID until 24 hours after the application has been submitted. With this in mind, you should plan to apply no later than January 7, otherwise you will not be able to register for courses on January 8.

    • Last day of Extended Registration for Spring 2019 Prerequisite Courses Time: All Day Locations: Online Details:

      We have extended our initial registration period which originally ended on January 8. Registration will now be open for the Spring 2019 courses until 5:00pm on Wednesday, January 16. With our semester beginning on Tuesday, January 15, it is important to remember that the later you register, the less time you will have to review course materials and complete Module 1 assignments by the due date of Monday, January 21.

      If you have any other questions about taking prerequisite courses with us, please review our Prerequisite FAQ.

      Please note: While the application may still be open on January 15, you will not receive your JHED ID until 24 hours after the application has been submitted. With this in mind, you should plan to apply no later than 11:59pm (ET) on January 14, otherwise you may not be able to register for courses on January 16.

      After registering, it will take 24 hours for the course to appear in your Blackboard course listings. Please keep this in mind, as it means you will not be able to begin reviewing course materials or completing assignments until a full day after you register for the course. Extensions will not be granted due to late registration, so please plan accordingly.

      MEN students graduating in Summer 2019 who plan to pursue an advanced level nursing degree within 12-18 months of graduating from JHSON should attend an information session to learn more about the SPAN Program.

      Breakfast will be served at 7:45 am. The presentation will begin at 8 AM followed by a question and answer session.       A screening of the 2016 documentary, "Why Not Home" followed by a discussion with local homebirth midwives. "Why Not Home" follows doctors, nurses, and midwives as they discuss the evidence behind birthing in various settings and make birthing choices for themselves.

    • OSI Biostatistics and Methods Core Workshop: Structural Equation Modeling with Nancy Perrin Time: 12:00pm - 1:30pm Locations: SON - Carpenter Room Details:

      The Office for Science and Innovation (OSI) is pleased to announce that Dr. Nancy Perrin, Director of the Biostatistics and Methods Core in the OSI, will be hosting a workshop focused on structural equation modeling.

      Structural equation modeling tests complex models incorporating a measurement model while simultaneously testing relationships where a given variable can be specified as both independent and dependent in the model.  Below is an example of such a model that predicts birth weight from mother’s characteristics.

      This seminar will provide an overview of when structural equation modeling is useful, including the special cases of path analysis, mediator models, and confirmatory factor analysis.  Topics will include evaluation of goodness-of-fit, sample size issues, and model modification.

      Shaping National Disaster and Public Health Policy through Nursing Research: The National Academy of Medicine Nurse Scholar in Residence

      The Office for Science and Innovation (OSI) is pleased to host a workshop lead by Dr. Tener Goodwin Veenema.  Dr. Goodwin Veenema served as the 2017–2018 Distinguished Nurse Scholar-in-Residence at the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). The program provides a yearlong leadership opportunity to participate in shaping health policy. This presentation will provide an overview of Dr. Veenema’s work while at NAM and strategies for using her leadership experience in advancing national preparedness and interprofessional workforce readiness in public health emergencies.  The Distinguished NAM Nurse Scholar-in-Residence program is supported by the American Academy of Nursing, the American Nurses Association, and the American Nurses Foundation.
