Students who are registered for our prerequisite courses get access to their course site(s) in Blackboard one week before the course begins. This date is also the deadline for registering to take prerequisite courses with us for the upcoming semester.
With our Spring 2020 semester beginning on Tuesday, January 14, course sites will be opening to students on Tuesday, January 7. This is also the final day to register for prerequisite courses in our Spring 2020 semester. Students who have an active JHED ID can register for courses at https://uis.jhu.edu/sis/.
If you have any other questions about taking prerequisite courses with us, please review our Prerequisite FAQ.
Please note: While the prerequisite application may be open on January 7, you will not receive your JHED ID until 24 hours after the application has been submitted. With this in mind, you should plan to submit your application no later than January 6, otherwise you may not be able to register for courses on January 7.

We have extended our initial registration period which originally ended on January 7. Registration will be open for the Spring 2020 courses until 5:00pm on Wednesday, January 15, as space allows. Once all course sections have met capacity (either before or by this date), registration will close for that course.
With our semester beginning on Tuesday, January 14, it is important to remember that the later you register, the less time you will have to review course materials and complete Module 1 assignments by the due date of Monday, January 20.

Please note: While the application may still be open on January 14, you will not receive your JHED ID until 24 hours after the application has been submitted. With this in mind, you should plan to apply no later than 11:59pm (ET) on January 13, otherwise you will not be able to register for courses by/on January 15.

Using JHM Data For Research: Everything I wanted to Know about the Data Trust (but was afraid to ask) Time: 12:00pm - 1:30pm Locations: SON 10-Pinkard Bldg Details:
Researchers are often puzzled as to why a project is referred for Data Trust review and what best practices can avoid such a review. This session will help you navigate Data Trust reviews, reduce risks to patient data, and implement best practices for data management using enterprise resources. Best of all, implementing these practices may streamline the IRB review process.
Valerie Smothers is the Data Trust Administrator for Johns Hopkins Medicine. She provides leadership in the development of data governance policies, processes, and infrastructure for use across Johns Hopkins Medicine and coordinates across 9 Data Trust Analytic Teams and approximately 200 data analysts. Working with faculty and operational leaders, she manages data governance processes to review the use of Johns Hopkins Medicine Data for research and quality improvement and serves as the point person for data governance operational issues. She contributes to programs for business intelligence workforce development and data literacy programs for management.

The topic of this month’s student forum is the DNP Project: Expectations & Process. This session will be led by Associate Director of the DNP Advanced Practice Program, Dr. Susan Renda and many of our DNP project faculty members. Please attend to receive a brief overview and gain more information about the expectations and process of the DNP Project.

Speakers will provide an overview of abortion in the United States with a focus on the current legal threats to abortion, the implications for abortion care access, and the experiences of abortion providers. The Hopkins Medicine Distinguished Speakers Series is excited to be hosting Peter Hotez, M.D., Ph.D. for an evening lecture titled “Vaccines in an Age of Conflict, Global Instability, Climate Change, and Antiscience.” The event will begin at 6pm on Thursday, Jan. 30 in the Armstrong Medical Education Building first floor lecture hall. Doors will open at 5.30pm with refreshments available. There will be an opportunity for Q&A following Dr. Hotez’s talk. Please RSVP here if you are interested in attending.
Dr. Hotez is one of the world’s leading experts in the field of vaccine development for neglected tropical diseases. A physician-scientist by training, he is the author of more than 500 original research papers, and currently serves as Dean and professor at the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. He served as a Science Envoy for the U.S. State Department under the Obama administration, and has more recently become a leading voice from the scientific community engaging with vaccine skeptics.
We hope that you will be able to join us for an evening of conversation and learning about issues relevant to the role of vaccines in today’s world.
