Monthly Biostatistics and Methods Core Workshop: Latent Class Analysis Time: 12:00pm - 1:30pm Locations: SON 217-Pinkard Bldg Details:
The Office for Science and Innovation (OSI) is pleased to announce that Dr. Nancy Perrin, Director of the Biostatistics and Methods Core in the OSI, will be hosting a workshop focused on latent class analysis.
Latent class analysis (LCA) is a general mixture model that is used to identify unobservable or latent subgroups within a population. This talk will describe the general framework of LCA, compare LCA to cluster analysis, latent profile analysis and factor analysis, describe the type of data needed for LCA, and the approaches to fitting the models. We will discuss example studies where the latent classes are used a predictor variables, for example a researcher might want to examine if classes of alcohol and drug use patterns are predictive of suicide attempts and deaths. Additionally, we will discuss examples where the latent classes are used as outcomes, for example a researcher might want to examine if exposure to different environmental toxins are predictive of latent classes based on measures of physical and cognitive functioning.

This workshop will be recorded and livestreamed.
