He brings over a decade of experience in higher education in the development and implementation of research, teaching, mentoring and advisement of underrepresented and marginalized student populations. Prior to arriving at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, Jermaine has held faculty and administrative roles at the City University of New York, Rutgers, Temple, and Drew Universities. His commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging includes building out a structured faculty-student centric diversity and inclusion platform. This includes helping and supporting underrepresented and marginalized students matriculate and persist to graduation. In addition, his vision includes developing and supporting faculty and staff by designing, implementing, and facilitating professional training programs to support institutional and organizational effectiveness.

The COMPASS journal club is an opportunity for SON students to critically evaluate recent articles from academic literature on subjects related to our mission and vision. The journal club aims to create awareness about current issues, research, opportunities, and initiatives.
Through journal club, we hope to foster opportunities for JHU students and faculty to dialogue about current issues in the field. We encourage participants to share their view regarding the appropriateness of the research design, statistical methods employed, and conclusions drawn from the findings. JHSON Grand Rounds Heather Watson: The Johns Hopkins Center for Nursing Inquiry; Building Partnerships to Build Capacity. Time: 12:00pm - 12:30pm Locations: 525 North Wolfe Street, Baltimore MD Details: Dr. Heather Watson is The Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) Nurse Scientist leading and conducting discipline-specific and interprofessional research to strengthen the implementation, adoption and sustainability of best evidence for clinical, administrative and nursing practice. She grew up in Colorado and served in the United States Navy. Dr. Watson started her career as a maternal/child nurse, taught in nursing baccalaureate and master’s curriculums, and held a senior research nurse position in public health. Dr. Watsons’ initial research was in maternal and fetal health where the focus was on development and behavior. Currently her focus is building capacity for nursing research across the health system, using implementation science and practice as supporting theory and frameworks. She also leads The Center for Nursing Inquiry, which is a resource for nurses engaged in inquiry across the health system

At this workshop, I will discuss the basics of Intellectual Property: copyright, trademark and Patents, focusing on copyrights. I will aim to lay out ownership of Intellectual Property when the creator is a faculty member and graduate student and how that effects JHU ownership. I will share tips in order to safeguard your work from outside changes and how to commercialize and the role JHTV plays in that, e.g. licensing and royalties.
For Conflict of Interest, I will review current JHU and SON policies, e-disclose and the annual disclosure requirement.
