  • Virtual Summer Health Innovation Mentor Role from the MERIT Health Leadership Academy 

    Who We’re Looking For: Health Professionals to support small groups of 2-3 MERIT Scholars

    Mentor’s Role: Define a health innovation project focus. Provide guidance, feedback, background information, and connections to colleagues and/or clients/patients for informational interviews.

    Time Commitment: 6 Weeks (6/28-8/6), 1-2 hours a week on zoom with group (timing flexible). Additional time planning groups independent work and making connections for information interviews. Participate in one pre-summer mentor orientation & one mid summer check-in call.

    MERIT’s Role: Handle all compliance paperwork, HIPAA training, and broader summer coursework. Training, support, and structure for to set mentors up for success. Provide another layer of feedback and support for scholars throughout the summer.

    Summer Project Scope: Mentors will develop a project focus area by defining a problem that if addressed will improve health outcomes/health equity of a specific group. This can be related to an active project or the mentor’s broader professional interests. Ultimately MERIT Scholars will produce a research poster as the culmination of their summer experience.

    Program Overview: MERIT Health Leadership Academy works to educate and empower high school students from underrepresented backgrounds to become health professionals and change agents. MERIT provides rigorous Saturday courses, experiential health career summer internships, personalized college admissions counseling , and longitudinal mentorship.     The Center for Global Initiatives (CGI) was started in 2011 to serve as a cross-functional, integrated, and strategic administrative unit serving as an operational umbrella for existing and developing JH SON international education, practice, research, and policy initiatives. The Center leads activities that position JHSON as a world leader in nursing education, research, practice, and policy and promotes the nursing profession on a global platform and with a “footprint” in all global regions.

    Key programs and activities of the CGI interns will support include:

    • The PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center for Knowledge, Information Management, and Sharing
    • The Secretariat of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centers in Nursing and Midwifery


    In general, the intern’s duties are the following:

    • Assist CGI Director and Manager in meeting deliverables for the JHSON's WHO Collaborating Center, including:
      • Coordinating, delivering, and reporting on information dissemination activities including written and video blogs, webinars, and online discussion forums.
      • Coordinate other JHSON global health communications activities including newsletters and social media channels (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp)
      • Communicate routinely with global organizations and external partners in the global health community to organize and plan webinars on global health issues
      • Other duties as assigned (e.g., translation of blogs to Spanish)


    • Graduate nursing/public health students
    • At least 1 year of experience working with global organizations (American Red Cross, UNFP, UN, etc.) preferred.
    • Working experience and passion for global health work strongly a plus.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary, including the ability to write, edit and proofread written materials.
    • Demonstrated ability to use computer technology (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Email, Internet, Canva, WordPress, etc.)
    • Well-organized, with a demonstrated ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, as well as being able to work effectively under pressure.
    • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously; demonstrates a positive, results-oriented approach to work; self-motivated Fluency in Spanish (both verbal and written communications) or Portuguese is preferred, although not required

  • Postdoctoral Fellowship Position at the University of Texas Health Science Center

  • Nurse Scientist Appointment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute 

    The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Phyllis F. Cantor Center for Research in Nursing and Patient Care Services and Department of Medical Oncology and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Department of Medicine seek to identify a nurse investigator with demonstrated expertise in oncological research. The position includes a leadership role as Associate Director of the Cantor Center. The candidate must have a research-focused doctoral degree in nursing science with graduate level training in multiple methods.   • Ochsner Full-Time Physician Clinical Investigator Position

    General Summary: The effort for this position will be split 40% clinical practice with the physician’s specialty department and 60% with the Ochsner Center for Outcomes and Health Services Research (COHSR). Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and health system leaders to plan, implement, and evaluate key quality improvement and value-based care delivery initiatives is required. Ability to manage and deliver high-quality, safe patient care is required. . The physician clinical investigator will represent as necessary COHSR and the Division of Academics in system-wide initiatives to apply scientific and methodological rigor to program planning, implementation and evaluation. This position will partner as necessary with system leadership in the areas of Quality, Process Improvement, Value-Based Care Delivery and Telemedicine/Telehealth in the acute care and ambulatory settings.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Medical Degree (MD or DO);
    • Board certified in their respective clinical specialty;
    • Two-years’ experience as a practicing physician;
    • Two-years’ experience conducting or facilitating outcomes and health services research;
    • Familiarity with EpicCare Ambulatory and Epic Inpatient;
    • Experience in clinical systems and process re-design;
    • Experience with designing clinical decision support for evidence-based care;
    • Familiarity with the continuous quality improvement process;
    • Knowledge of clinical data standards for research;
    • Ability to educate and mentor;
    • Experience in designing clinical trials; and
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Perform effectively in a complex and changing environment.
    • Ability to analyze complex problems and develop recommendations and solutions.

    Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the Medical Director for the Center for Outcomes and Health Services Research under the Division of Academics with matrix reporting to the Chair of the clinical department of their specialty for clinical practice.
