Lola Coke has 25 years of experience as a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist and faculty member in advanced practice and doctoral studies. She has several publications in the field of cardiovascular nursing research and has presented at national and international meetings. Dr. Coke is certified in motivational interviewing (MI) and has conducted workshops on cardiovascular risk using this communication technique and lifestyle behavior change at national and international meetings and has written on its use in patients with pre-diabetes, including a book chapter in Rippe’s Lifestyle Medicine soon to be published. Dr. Coke has trained all levels of health care provider in MI and most recently is serving as content expert, trainer, and evaluator of care coordinators and community health workers in Federally Qualified Health Centers on three funded grants. Her most recent area of scholarship is completing a certificate program in competency-based mastery learning and developing simulation activities.
