Thinking about a nursing degree or just need to take your healthcare prerequistes?  Your adventure starts with us.

The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing stands alongside the top-ranked Johns Hopkins Schools of Medicine and Public Health and the internationally renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital, offering an unmatched interprofessional environment to students and faculty. It is a place to make an impact, locally and globally.

Established in 1889, the school is a recognized leader among its peers. We are ranked #1 for our Master’s Degree Graduate programs and #2 for our Doctoral Degree graduate programs in the United States in U.S. News & World Report’s survey for 2019. It was named the Most Innovative Nursing Graduate Program in the U.S. by Best Master of Science in Nursing Degrees. It is #1 among nursing schools in Federal Research Grants and National Institutes of Health funding. More than 40 percent of its faculty members have been named Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing, and 95 percent of full-time faculty have doctoral degrees.

As for the student body, more than 29 percent come to the school from racial or ethnic minority groups, and more than 10 percent are male. The school is home to the nation’s first Paul D. Coverdell (Peace Corps) Fellows Program in Nursing and remains a magnet for those who have volunteered abroad. In the clinical portions of their course work, students gain valuable experience at a number of hospitals and community centers. Student opportunities for international placements vary yearly based on our partner institutions’ availability. In the past, students have traveled to the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, the Philippines, Haiti, Guatemala, and St. Croix.

Our Home

Baltimore, Maryland, on the East Coast of the United States, buzzes with activity, especially the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus in East Baltimore. Here, Johns Hopkins leads a revitalization effort that is not only adding to its own campus but building affordable housing, restaurants, urban green spaces, innovation hubs, and a Hopkins-affiliated public school, the neighborhood’s first new school in a generation. A dense, multinational population of students, nurses, physicians, and post-docs creates a stimulating environment in which to grow as a health care provider, collaborator, and leader. Within walking distance are the nightlife, historic buildings, and welcoming, quirky populations of the city’s most distinctive urban and waterfront neighborhoods. Downtown Baltimore’s blend of visual and performing arts, sports, and restaurants is minutes away by car, bus, subway, or taxi. Washington, DC, 40 miles to the southwest, is an hour’s commute. Philadelphia, PA, is a bit more than 100 miles northeast and New York City is roughly 200 miles northeast and reachable in a bit over three hours by car. All four cities are connected by Amtrak, the nation’s passenger rail system.
