    • SOURCE Tri-School Toiletry Drive Time: All Day Location: JHU East Baltimore Campus Details:

      SOURCE will be collecting new and unopened toiletry items. Examples include but are not limited to: shampoo, soap, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, Q-tips, feminine hygiene products, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes and mouthwash. Items will be donated to a local nonprofit to assist those in need. Collection boxes will be located in JHSPH Student Lounge and Student Affairs (E1002), SON Lobby and SOM Armstrong Building Lobby. Items can also be dropped off at SOURCE – JHSPH, W1600. Co-sponsors for the drive include BFSA, AMWA, SON Staff Committee, Ahimsa and WHSG.     • Community-Based Participatory Research Seminar Series Time: 12:10pm - 12:40pm Location: Off-Campus or Various Locations Details:

      This seminar will take place at: Hampton House, Room 208, 624 North Broadway

      Speaker: Phyllis Sharps, PhD, RN, FAAN | Professor, Elsie M. Lawler Endowed Chair, Associate Dean for Community Programs and Initiatives, Johns Hopkins School of Nursing

      The Department of Health, Behavior and Society of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health invites faculty, students, post-doctoral scholars and fellows from all University divisions and centers, and the community to participate in the lunchtime Community-Based Participatory Research Seminar (CBPR Seminar).  This interactive seminar series is designed to enhance our capacity as a university and community in CBPR. Course credit is optional and takes place on the first and third Mondays for the third and fourth term.

    • American Muslim Women: A Panel Discussion with Local Professionals Time: 12:00pm - 1:30pm Location: JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health Details:

      Please join AMWELL for the second event of the Johns Hopkins University’s new seminar series: Understanding American Muslims in Sommer Hall at JHU School of Public Health at noon. This event, American Muslim Women: A Panel Discussion with Local Professionals, seeks to promote better understanding of American Muslim women, and will serve as a space to ask questions and engage with speakers from within this community. 

      This discussion will be interactive, so please bring any questions you may have, or email any questions that you would like to hear in the discussion to amwell@jhu.edu.

    • An Empire's State of Mind: Muslims, Race, and the Surveillance State Time: 12:00pm - 1:30pm Location: JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health Details:

      Students United for Peace (SUP) invites you to a guest lecture with Arshad Ali, PhD, assistant professor at the George Washington University entitled, “An Empire’s State of Mind: Muslims, Race and Surveillance State” on Thursday, May 4 at noon in Sommer Hall at the JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health. The lecture will discuss how historic narratives of Muslim “otherness” play out in contemporary cultural and political discourse, policing practices and through the discrimination and violence on Muslim communities in the US. Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Michael Ward, MEd, will be presenting opening remarks to this talk.

      Students United for Peace is a coalition of individuals in the Johns Hopkins University community uniting to provide service and support to marginalized groups in the Baltimore area.
