      On Monday, April 3, 2017, join the Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute for the Sixth Annual Symposium on the Social Determinants of Health entitled Baltimore's Youth: Reducing Vulnerability to Improve Our Future. Featured speakers include William Julius Wilson (author and professor at Harvard University) and Alex Kotlowitz (author and documentarian).

    • Social Determinants of Health Symposium Time: 8:00am - 5:30pm Location: Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Details:

      The Social Determinants of Health Symposium is an annual, day-long event that brings together national experts, local community leaders, city residents, and faculty and students from Baltimore colleges and universities to examine a pressing topic related to the root causes of health. This year's topic is Baltimore's Youth - Reducing Vulnerability to Improve Our Future. Join us for a day of panel discussions, small group breakout sessions, youth storytelling, and spoken word artists.

       
       
    • Abortion: a Provider's Experience Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm Location: SON 9-Pinkard Bldg Details: Join NED Talks and Nursing Students for Sexual and Reproductive Health for a presentation on abortion and women's health on Monday, April 3, 2017 from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Room 9.  Lauren Svrjcek is a graduate of JHSON and currently works at Bayview Medical Center as an RN in Labor and Delivery, OBGYN clinic and at their Women's Center for Family Planning.     • Community-Based Participatory Research Seminar Series Time: 12:10pm - 1:10pm Location: Off-Campus or Various Locations Details:

      This seminar will take place at: Hampton House, Room 208, 624 North Broadway

      Speaker: Lee Bone, MPH, Associate Professor, Department of Health, Behavior, and Society. "CBPR Overview and Introductions."

      The Department of Health, Behavior and Society of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health invites faculty, students, post-doctoral scholars and fellows from all University divisions and centers, and the community to participate in the lunchtime Community-Based Participatory Research Seminar (CBPR Seminar).  This interactive seminar series is designed to enhance our capacity as a university and community in CBPR. Course credit is optional and takes place on the first and third Mondays for the third and fourth term.

      Join the Center for Global Initiatives in Pinkard-305 for a panel discussion on the topic of mental health. The panel will consist of three speakers addressing their research and current topics on depression/mental health, locally, nationally and globally. Speakers include: Alfredo Santiago, LCSW-C, Baltimore Medical System, discussing Refugee Mental Health; Sarah Murray, PhD, Post-Doctoral Fellow at Bloomberg School of Public Health, discussing Perinatal Mental Health; Chuck Vrasich, MD, Healthcare for the Homeless, discussing Homelessness and Mental Health.

      Bring yourself and your yoga mat and leave with some peace-of-mind! Join us in the courtyard for an event to raise awareness of the benefits of yoga and mental health. Brought to you by the Center for Global Initiatives and the Yoga Service Project, yoga teacher Caitlin Red from Yoga Works will be leading us in an hour long practice. The class will be donation-based and all money raised will go to the Refugee Youth Project. JHSAP will be on hand to offer tips and resources for your mental health.
