      Speaker: Patti Ephraim, MPH; Research Associate, Department of Epidemiology, Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology, and Clinical Research. The Department of Health, Behavior and Society of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health invites faculty, students, post-doctoral scholars and fellows from all University divisions and centers, and the community to participate in the lunchtime Community-Based Participatory Research Seminar (CBPR Seminar). This interactive seminar series is designed to enhance our capacity as a university and community in CBPR.       Dr. Dave Fearon, PhD, Data Management Consultant with JHU Data Management Services, will be hosting a workshop on de-identifying human subjects data for sharing. This workshop will be an overview of techniques for assessing disclosure risk and removing personal identifiers from research data both quantitative and qualitative, making them ready for sharing and following IRB and HIPAA guidance.

      Please join the Office for Science and Innovation at the School of Nursing Research Retreat on Friday, March 24, 2017. All full-time faculty are strongly encouraged to attend and we welcome any agenda items for discussion.

      We would like to use this opportunity to strategize and enhance the research mission of the School of Nursing. This half-day program will focus on current research initiatives, support, and trends as well as identify national shifts and the role of nursing research within. Working with faculty, the Office for Science and Innovation wants to illuminate new investigator-initiated funding mechanisms and develop strategies to not only adapt but thrive in the current nursing research climate.

      In this talk I engage the literature on biological citizenship from the perspective of the “biodefector”—a way of conceptualizing those who exercise informed refusal as a corollary to informed consent. Drawing together three moments of refusal from the US, South Africa and UK, I examine the potential of refusal to challenge colonial forms of knowledge production and lay the groundwork for justice-based bioethics.
