Department of Acute and Chronic Care

The Department of Acute and Chronic Care aims to advance health care globally through nursing research, education, and practice that respects the dignity of the human person in populations at risk for or experiencing acute and chronic conditions. The Department provides leadership that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of underserved and vulnerable populations based upon the biological, behavioral, psychosocial, and philosophical perspective.

Chair

Dr. Marie NolanMarie T. Nolan, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN
Professor

Dr. Marie T. Nolan is internationally renowned for her work on patient and family decision making in the face of critical illness. Her research focuses on the decision-making process at the end of life and on decisions regarding living organ donation. She became chair of the department in July 2010.
